Al-Eryani welcomes new U.S. sanctions on networks linked to Houthi Terrorist Militia
[20/06/2025 05:57]

ADEN - SABA
Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Muoammar al-Eryani welcomed the firm action announced by the U.S. Department of the Treasury today, which imposes new sanctions on a funding and smuggling network associated with the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militia.

The sanctions target four individuals, twelve entities, and two vessels, as part of "the largest American campaign to date aimed at the financial and logistical networks of the militia."

He explained in a press statement that this significant step is a continuation of the successive measures taken by the U.S. administration in its efforts to dry up the sources of funding for the Houthi militia and limit its capacity to continue its terrorist activities, which threaten the security and stability of Yemen, the region, international navigation, and global trade.

The minister pointed out that the new sanctions have affected fictitious companies and individuals involved in smuggling Iranian oil, money laundering, financing arms purchases, and managing ports under the militia's control. He emphasized that these moves expose once again the parallel economy built by the militia to fund its terrorist activities, exploiting public resources and humanitarian aid to serve its coup agenda.

He added that the sanctions, which include asset and property freezes related to the designated entities, aim not only to punish but also to undermine the militia's capabilities to continue its hostile activities. He stressed that this represents a significant step towards curbing Houthi activities in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, and the Gulf of Aden, and limiting the flow of illicit revenues that fuel their futile wars.

He called on the international community, particularly the European Union and the United Kingdom, to take similar steps and to work in a coordinated manner to pursue the financial and commercial networks used by the Houthis both inside Yemen and abroad, and to impose sanctions on individuals and companies that provide them with facilitation or collude with them.
