Supreme Council of Energy endorses plans to improve electricity services
[14/08/2025 06:45]

ADEN - SABA
The Supreme Council of Energy (SCE) has approved a number of plans and alternatives to develop strategic solutions to improve the electricity services by using renewable energy and less cost fuels to generate electricity.

In its meeting today, Thursday, chaired by the Prime Minister Salem bin Braik the SCE has approved practical measures to reduce diesel-powered electricity stations, which are costly, in all government-held governorates, according to timeline program, with a flexible transition to avoid exacerbating the energy deficit.

The SCE has commissioned the Ministry of Electricity and Energy to adopt a standard partnership contract with the private sector to achieve the desired benefits, in coordination with the relevant Ministries for electricity projects, ensuring that they are under lease agreements leading to ownership, while considering operational resources (gas or fuel oil), in addition to renewable and clean energy projects.

The SCE has, in principle, agreed to the request submitted by a German company in collaboration with global companies and investment funds to establish a green hydrogen plant in Yemen and other projects, which will provide a wide range of opportunities to begin the process of transitioning towards sustainable local energy supplies.

The strategic green hydrogen project in Yemen includes the development and implementation of renewable energy and gas projects in phases, with investments reaching up to 3 billion dollars and the possibility of additional projects, in collaboration with major global technology players.

A technical team from the Ministries of Electricity and Energy and Oil and Minerals has been tasked with negotiating with the company to explore all the technical and financial details of the project.

The SCE has approved the preparation of a study for the electricity transmission line from Balhaf to Aden, utilizing previous project studies in this regard, and seeking international funding for this vital strategic project.

The SCE also approved the commencement of procedures to change the operation of the President Electricity Station in Aden to diesel fuel oil instead of crude oil, according to a scheduled and gradual plan.
