Yemen’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Dr. Ahmed al-Wuhayshi, held talks on Wednesday with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, focusing on bilateral cooperation in energy reform and ongoing peace efforts in Yemen.
During the meeting, Ambassador al-Wuhayshi outlined the Yemeni government’s plans to rehabilitate the country’s electricity infrastructure, including the Al-Haswa thermal power plant, and emphasized the importance of Russian participation in supporting both the modernization of the sector and the transition toward renewable energy sources.
The Ambassador also raised concerns about the continued detention of United Nations and NGO staff by the Houthi militia, referring to the latest briefing by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen.
He commended Russia’s consistent condemnation of Houthi violations and acts that threaten regional stability and maritime navigation.
