CAIRO - SABA
The Arab League on Sunday called for intensified international efforts to confront the growing phenomenon of hate speech and discrimination against Muslims in order to prevent deeper divisions among religions and cultures.

In a statement marking the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, the organization said the world observes this occasion, which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2022, to emphasize the need to confront all forms of hatred and discrimination based on religion or belief, particularly discrimination targeting Muslims.

The statement added that the occasion represents an opportunity to renew international commitment to the values of tolerance and mutual respect, promote dialogue among cultures and religions, and highlight the challenges faced by Muslims in various parts of the world due to stereotypes and hate speech.

The Arab League also expressed concern over the alarming rise in hate speech and discrimination against followers of Islam, noting that the phenomenon has worsened amid global crises and conflicts.

It stressed the importance of confronting all acts of religious hatred and attacks on beliefs, rejecting any practices that distort the image of religions or discriminate against individuals on the basis of religion or belief.

The organization affirmed that Islam calls for the values of peace, justice, and tolerance, emphasizing that education and awareness are essential pillars in countering negative stereotypes targeting Islam and Muslims.
