Yemenia's new Airbus A320 aircraft, named "Kingdom of Awsan," arrived at Aden International Airport on Friday, joining the company’s fleet.
During the welcoming ceremony, Minister of Transport Dr. Abdul Salam Humaid congratulated the ministry's leadership, Yemenia, and all the people of Yemen on this achievement, noting that the new aircraft represents the fourth addition to Yemenia's fleet and will significantly help alleviate pressure on flights and travel.
Minister Hamid confirmed that Yemenia is confidently moving forward, rebuilding its fleet and assets despite the challenges it has faced and has successfully overcome these obstacles.
He emphasized the support from the government and the Ministry of Transport for all efforts made by Yemenia.
The Minister reiterated Yemenia's and the Ministry of Transport's commitment to the Cabinet's decision to reconsider ticket prices and sell them in the national currency, in line with improvements in the local currency exchange process, aiming to ease the burden on citizens amidst the ongoing circumstances in the country.
For his part, Captain Nasser Mahmoud, Chairman of Yemenia's Board of Directors stated that the aircraft has a capacity of 150 passengers, with seats divided between business class and economy class.
He mentioned that the name was chosen in honor of the ancient Yemeni civilization of Awsan.
He added that the purchase of this aircraft is part of the development and modernization plans for the national carrier, praising the significant attention given by political leadership, represented by President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council for honoring commitment to supporting the company's development and facilitating various procedures to serve all citizens of the republic.
