Minister of Health Launches Cancer Control Strategy

Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasem Buhaybeh launched Monday the National Cancer Control Strategy for the years 2025-2030, developed by the National Cancer Control Program.

The strategy includes various topics related to cancer and its current status in Yemen, its objectives, priority actions, components of the national cancer control strategy, a cancer support fund, human resources, and program management and coordination.

Minister Buhaybeh emphasized the commitment to achieving the strategy's goals in combating cancer, which has reached significant levels affecting the health sector.

He noted that the ministry is adopting several developmental projects that will soon be launched in Aden and other governorates.

He called for the necessity of collaboration with other governorates to establish treatment centers for cancer patients, highlighting the ministry's efforts to introduce several important vaccines to prevent disease spread.

For his part, Dr. Jamal Abdulhamid, the General Director of the National Cancer Control Program, confirmed that the strategy's achievement represents the fruit of joint efforts among various stakeholders and partners, outlining the different phases the strategy went through, marking the beginning of a new phase aimed at achieving tangible improvements in patient care quality.
Additionally, Dr. Abdul Wahab al-Nihmi, the Director of Non-Communicable Disease Programs at the World Health Organization, noted that the strategy's final formulation reflects the community's significant needs and the ambition to reduce morbidity and mortality, hoping it will contribute to prevention, early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up.
In another context, the Minister of Public Health and Population inspected the progress of professional competency exams for health practitioners conducted by the Higher Medical Council in Aden.

The minister toured the three exam halls in the faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry, reviewing sample questions included in the exam for medical and allied health specialties, which are being conducted for the first time in the country.

He commended the preparation and organization of the exam, affirming that medical practice licenses and allied professions are exclusively under the Higher Medical Council and any deviations would be considered violations of professional regulations and laws.

Meanwhile, Dr. Omar Zain, the President of the Higher Medical Council and Dr. Abdulhakim al-Tamimi, the Head of the Evaluation, Classification and Equivalence Committee, outlined the necessary procedures for implementing the first exam for practitioners, including doctors and their assistants, as well as other health and nursing professions.

They clarified the objectives of the exam in achieving quality medical services and monitoring their legal performance, noting the participation of 1,200 candidates across Aden, Hadramout, Marib, Taiz and the Yemeni consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
