RIYADH - SABA
The Speaker of the Parliament Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani discussed Tuesday with U.S. Ambassador to Yemen Stephen Fagin a range of important issues on the national scene.
They discussed peace processes and available prospects, regional and international developments, and several matters of mutual interest.
The Parliament Speaker reviewed the scale of challenges and the ongoing events in our country due to the crimes committed by the Iran-backed Houthi militias against our people, their violations of civilians, and the threats to regional and international peace and security.
He emphasized that these militias have disregarded all options for peace and agreements while exhibiting arrogance towards international community decisions, all in full view of the world.
He reaffirmed that peace must be based on the three references and the preservation of the republican system, Yemen's unity, and the integrity of its territory on the basis of justice, democracy, freedom, and human rights—not on claims of divine rights by a terrorist group that cannot be a serious partner in making peace.
He noted that all previous agreements were implemented by the legitimate government, while the Houthis have not fulfilled any of their obligations.
Al-Barakani called on brothers and friends to support the government's efforts to overcome all challenges, particularly in the economic sector, and to stabilize the exchange rate within safe limits, which would improve citizens' living standards, provide basic services, and fulfill its responsibilities in various areas.
He stressed the importance of the United States playing its role as an active partner in achieving peace and supporting the legitimate government in facing economic challenges and taking a firm and clear stance against the terrorism practiced by the Houthi militias, which threatens the future and lives of Yemenis, as well as the region and the world.
The meeting also addressed developments in the region, including the "brutal" Israeli war against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples and its catastrophic implications for international peace and security.
Al-Barakani reiterated Yemen's and its constitutional legitimacy's condemnation of the ongoing brutal actions of the Israeli occupation against civilians in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon.
For his part, the U.S. Ambassador affirmed the American administration's support for Yemen and its constitutional legitimacy, and its continued efforts to achieve stability in the region.
He reiterated his country's support for Yemen in all fields, hoping that Yemen would achieve just and comprehensive peace and enjoy security and stability.
The US diplomat condemned the Houthi acts against Yemenis, describing their behavior as unacceptable to the Yemeni people, alongside their brutal practices and attempts to harm Yemen through ongoing attacks on waterways.
He confirmed that the U.S. position remains firm and unchanged regarding the preservation of Yemen's security, stability, and unity and the resolution of the crisis, which is receiving attention at the highest levels within the U.S. administration.
