Everyday Yemeni journalists fall dead by killing as they gather news and facts or get captured for their opinions, while the international community in Yemen is apathetic to their sacrifices and has not yet moved to their rescue, Nabil al-Oseidi a board member of Yemen's Journalists Union said.
In a presentation at the international seminar on freedom of opinion and expression held today in the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, al-Oseidi demanded the international organizations to fulfill their pledge of protecting journalists during conflicts.
Al-Oseidi cited the cases of female broadcaster Jameelah Jameel, investigative journalist Mohammed Al-Absi and vetern journalist Yahya al-Jobehi as three cases of journalists' encounter with savagery. The last of the three has recently been sentenced by the Saleh-Houthi militia to death.
The seminar recommended a quick action to press the militia into releasing the journalists in their custody and suspend the death sentence against al-Jobeihi.
