[16/06/2026 02:22]

BERLIN - SABA
The Republic of Yemen has signed an agreement with Germany’s Winckelmann Society and Museum to recover cultural property linked to the collection of German diplomat Werner Daum, currently held at the Stendal City Museum.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Yemen by Ambassador to Germany Luay Al-Eryani and Mohammed Atboush, a member of the Public Prosecution’s International Liaison Unit responsible for tracking smuggled antiquities cases. Dr. Max Kunze, Director of the Winckelmann Society and Museum, signed on behalf of the German side.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two antiquities will remain at the Winckelmann Museum for preservation, conservation, and public exhibition. Yemen retains full ownership rights and the right to request their return and transfer through diplomatic channels, in coordination with the German institution.
The agreement marks a continued effort by Yemen to recover and protect its cultural heritage from illicit trafficking.
