The Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Nizar Basuhaib discussed Sunday with the Director of the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office for Development in Yemen Randa Marghli areas of joint cooperation between the government and UN organizations, in a way that contributes to supporting sustainable development efforts and improving the humanitarian response.
The two sides discussed the challenges related to funding shortages and their impact on food security, as well as the health and water sectors and emphasized the importance of joint preparation of development and humanitarian intervention priorities for the coming year, in line with national plans, economic recovery objectives, and institutional capacity-building.
They also addressed coordination and arrangements for holding a development workshop scheduled to be organized with the participation of the government and UN and international organizations.
Dr. Basuhaib underscored the importance of aligning UN programs and projects with the needs and priorities of the Yemeni government, praising the role played by the United Nations in supporting development and recovery pathways and enhancing stability, particularly in light of the current economic and humanitarian challenges.
In a separate meeting, the Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation discussed with the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Office in Aden, Mahmoud Abu Husaiba the organization’s interventions and activities amid the funding challenges facing the health sector.
The meeting reviewed the level of services and field activities implemented by the Red Cross in several areas, including Sanah in Dhalea Governorate, al-Mudhaffar in Taiz Governorate and the Western Coast, in addition to its humanitarian activities in providing healthcare for traffic accident victims and supporting emergency medical services.
The Deputy Minister stressed the importance of focusing on supporting central hospitals and strengthening their operational capacities to ensure the continuity of essential health services, affirming the government’s keenness to enhance partnership and coordination with international organizations to direct interventions toward the most urgent priorities that directly affect citizens’ needs.
