Minister of Water and Environment Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi, discussed Wednesday with the Japanese Ambassador to Yemen Yoichi Nakashima coordination of positions between the two countries within the ongoing consultations for the CITES Convention on endangered species, during the twentieth Conference of the Parties scheduled to be held in the Uzbek city of Samarkand from November 24 to December 5.

They also reviewed opportunities for cooperation to develop existing environmental projects in Yemen.

During the meeting, held via video conference, Minister al-Sharjabi stressed the importance of strengthening Yemeni-Japanese coordination regarding the proposals and items on the CITES agenda, appreciating the Yemeni government’s recognition of Japan’s support in the fields of water, sanitation and capacity-building.

For his part, the Japanese Ambassador reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Yemen in international forums, emphasizing Japan’s keenness to coordinate positions and exchange expertise with the Yemeni side during the CITES meetings within the framework of the twentieth Conference of the Parties, in a way that enhances the ability of both countries to contribute effectively to the protection of endangered species.
