Vice Foreign Minister Discusses Enhanced Partnership and Migration Issues with UN High Commissioner
[08/10/2025 06:10]
GENEVA-SABA
Vice Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mustafa Noaman, met with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, to discuss strengthening partnership and addressing migration and displacement issues.

During the meeting on the sidelines of the 76th Executive Committee session of the UNHCR in Geneva, Vice Minister Noaman expressed Yemen's appreciation for Grandi's efforts and continuous support for Yemen, refugees, and displaced persons.

He highlighted Yemen's severe humanitarian situation due to ongoing war, noting that it has resulted in 4.8 million internally displaced persons, over 100,000 refugees and asylum seekers, and 700,000 irregular migrants attempting to reach Gulf states.

Noaman emphasized that Yemen's burden exceeds its internal crisis, citing climate change impacts and natural disasters worsening refugees' and displaced persons' suffering, including 100,000 families displaced by floods last year.

He valued UNHCR's protection, shelter, and humanitarian coordination efforts but noted significant funding gaps hindering effective humanitarian response in Yemen, calling for international financial and technical support.
