Taiz Governor discusses Emergency Committee's report to Ssolve water crisis
[29/07/2025 04:49]

TAIZ - SABA

Governor of Taiz Nabil Shamsan, held a comprehensive meeting today with the management of the Water Corporation and the Emergency Committee, attended by the deputy Governors Engineer Rashad al-Akhali, Aref Jamel, Engineer Moheeb al-Hakimi, and Dr. Elan Abdulhaq.

The meeting focused on discussing the latest developments regarding the severe water crisis the city is facing, which has intensified recently due to ongoing drought and a noticeable decrease in wells productivity.

During the meeting, the deputy governor for services, Engineer Rashad al-Akhali, presented a detailed report on the urgent measures taken to alleviate the crisis and the proposed solutions.

A comprehensive plan was presented, based on several key pillars, aiming to exert complete control over all water sources in the city and the al-Dhabab area, whether they are public wells under the corporation's management or outside its control, in addition to private and commercial wells.

The plan included a comprehensive survey of all wells to estimate the available water quantities and compare them with the actual needs of the city, with a clear mechanism for prioritizing water distribution.

According to the plan, the highest priority will be given to drinking water and household uses, followed by service facilities, and then other commercial uses.

Governor Shamsan emphasized the necessity of regulating water sale prices and establishing a fair pricing system based on actual operating costs to prevent exploitation and ensure citizens receive water at reasonable prices.

He directed the Water Corporation to rationalize water consumption through its networks, work on repairing faults to reduce losses and immediately activate the metering system to achieve fair and transparent distribution.

The meeting approved a set of binding recommendations for the concerned authorities, including allocating wells in the al-Dhabab area solely for drinking water, requiring the Water Corporation to operate filling stations to meet the needs of areas not connected to the network.

The recommendations also included implementing strict regulatory oversight on all water sources to ensure compliance with specified prices and priorities, and seeking new water sources in neighboring districts as sustainable solutions to address the water deficit in the city.
