Deputy Governor of Marib for Administrative Affairs Abdullah al-Bakeri, along with Acting Director-General of the Agriculture and Irrigation Office Ali Buhaybeh, inaugurated the first phase of the Emergency Support Project for Livelihoods and Agriculture in the Governorate.

This project is implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through the local partner, the Benevolence Coalition for Humanitarian Relief, and the Agriculture and Irrigation Office in the governorate.

The project, which is funded by the Central Emergency Response Fund and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, aims to support 2,390 farmers from the host community and displaced individuals in the governorate, with the goal of improving their livelihoods and enhancing food production.

The project consists of three phases, which include supporting farmers with seeds and fertilizers, livestock assistance, and training and guidance for the beneficiary farmers throughout each phase.

During the launch, al-Bakeri praised this important development project, which will strengthen farmers' resilience to overcome many challenges arising from climate change and war conditions, and mitigate their impacts.

He emphasized the need to focus on training and raising farmers' awareness about the optimal use of fertilizers and pest control to maximize the benefits of the project and achieve the desired positive impact on supporting farmers, enhancing agricultural production, and preserving soil quality.

For his part, Buhybeh explained that the first phase of the project targets the support of 1,000 farmers with okra and onion seeds, as well as compound fertilizers, and will last for ten days.

This will be followed by the second phase, which aims to distribute sesame seeds and urea fertilizer to 500 farmers.

The third phase will involve the distribution of 3,560 heads of local sheep (fat-tailed) to 890 beneficiaries from the displaced and host communities, accompanied by training and guidance for beneficiaries in each phase.
