Yemen: UN Coordinator's statements on fuel exhaustion, baseless
[15/11/2017 02:10]
ADEN-SABA
Yemen's ministry of oil `expressed astonishment over warning by UN Resident Coordinator in Yemen on exhausting fuel reserve in Yemen as he refers to Houhi-Saleh mlitias-held areas.

" These statements reconfirm bias of the UN mission in Yemen to the side of the militias and dependence on misleading information presented by the coupists without referring to the legitimate government or even depending on field reports or fact finding teams on different issues, including crisis of oil derivatives," an authorized source at the ministry told Saba.

The source made it clear that the fuel crisis came after the the rebel militias circulated floating fuel law and limiting the import on a number of black market traders affiliated to the militias in provinces under their control, making the price of a liter of fuel skyrocketing to YR 1000 while in government-held areas is sold for YR 175.
He confirmed that the problem lays in the militias-held areas.

The source called on the coordinator to make field visits to government oil tanks in Hodeida and Salif ports and in the capital Sana'a for inspecting the flourishing of the black markets, which stand behind the real reasons of the crisis.

He pointed out that oil derivatives can be bought via Yemeni ports under the legitimate government (Aden, Mukalla and Mocha) and distributing them across Yemeni provinces, including coupists held provinces.

The source reaffirmed government's acceptance of the suggestion of the UN Envoy to Yemen for making Hodeida Port under the UN control to ensure putting an end to extortion of Houthi-Saleh's militias on traders and ending monopoly of importing fuel.

He confirmed that the militias monopolize fuel import for financing their war effort and waging wars on Yemeni people and neighbors.
