WASHINGTON D.C. - SABA
The United States has deployed the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier to the Caribbean Sea, escalating tensions with Venezuela amid accusations of using anti-narcotics operations as a pretext for regime change.
According to the US Southern Command, the carrier strike group will join existing naval forces in the region, including amphibious ships and marine units, to enhance counter-narcotics efforts.
Since August, the US has deployed six warships to the Caribbean, conducting raids on approximately 20 vessels suspected of drug trafficking, resulting in at least 76 fatalities.
Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has condemned the US actions as "imperialistic" and accused Washington of seeking to control the country's oil reserves.
In response, Venezuela has mobilized its military across the nation, vowing to defend its sovereignty against perceived US aggression.
