Chinese authorities have evacuated more than 150,000 people from Guangdong Province as Typhoon Matmo approaches the southern coast, raising concerns over potential damage.
According to the Associated Press, wind speeds accompanying the typhoon have reached up to 151 kilometers per hour.
The China National Meteorological Center issued a red alert—the highest level in the country’s warning system—indicating the severity of the storm, which is expected to make landfall around midday.
