The Bank of Japan kept interest rates unchanged today, Friday, but decided to start selling its holdings of exchange-traded funds and real estate investment trusts.

The bank, at the conclusion of its two-day monetary policy meeting, decided to maintain the short-term interest rate at 0.5 percent, in a move that aligns with market expectations.

The decision to keep interest rates steady came after the U.S. Federal Reserve resumed cutting interest rates last Wednesday, while keeping the door open for further monetary easing.
