South Korea's exports jumped 33.9 percent year-on-year to reach $65.85 billion in January, driven by strong demand for semiconductors.

Data released by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy showed that the country's exports in January amounted to $65.85 billion, hitting a record high for January and surpassing the $60 billion mark for the first time in January.

Korea's imports rose 11.7 percent year-on-year to $57.1 billion in January, resulting in a trade surplus of $8.7 billion.
This marks the twelfth consecutive month that the country has experienced a trade surplus.

Industry Minister Kim Jong-kwan said in a statement "Exports had started strongly, with January exports recording double-digit growth year-on-year."
