[05/08/2025 07:51]

VARNA - SABA
Varna Airport welcomed its one-millionth passenger for 2025 on Tuesday on a flight from Frankfurt, Germany.

Gerhard Peschke arrived together with his wife, two children and two grandchildren, who will all stay in Obzor for 9 days, Peschke said, adding that this is their second visit to Bulgaria.

This year, the one-millionth passenger was welcomed three weeks earlier than in previous periods, which shows that traffic is higher, Varna Airport Director Dimitar Kostadinov stated.

He specified that so far more than 8,000 flights have been dispatched and received at the airport and that expectations are that their increase this year compared to last will reach 15%.

Every third passenger served at Varna Airport in 2025 is from Germany, Kostadinov emphasized, noting that the number of passengers from this country has reached 300,000 already, which is an increase of nearly 60% compared to 2024. Nearly 85,000 passengers flew between Varna and Vienna, while slightly fewer traveled to Istanbul.

The airport director also stated that the domestic market is very strong, as about 130,000 passengers have traveled between Varna and Sofia.
The airport is preparing to send off a strong year, he concluded, adding that the winter schedule will include flights to and from 17 destinations, and for the first time a year-round route with Frankfurt, Germany will be served as well.

From September, the Varna - Bergamo, Italy line will also be resumed, Kostadinov said.
He noted that in 2025, investments in assets, facilities and equipment at Varna Airport will exceed EUR 4 million, and recalled that the baggage system has been reconstructed and a photovoltaic park is being built.
