U.S. President plans to increase tariffs on steel, aluminum imports
[31/05/2025 01:10]
WASHINGTON - SABA
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed his intention to increase tariffs on foreign imports of steel and aluminum from 25% to 50%, which will increase pressure on steel producers worldwide and threaten to escalate his trade war.

During a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump stated, "We will impose a 25% increase, raising tariffs on steel imports to the United States from 25% to 50%, which will strengthen the steel industry in the country."

Trump added that the $14.9 billion deal would help maintain jobs for steelworkers in the U.S., and that the domestic steel and aluminum industries would return stronger than ever.

It is worth noting that tariffs on steel and aluminum were among the first imposed by Trump upon returning to office in January, with the 25% tariffs on most steel and aluminum imports to the U.S. taking effect in March.
