Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, emphasized the importance of giving due attention to the historical and strategic relationship between Yemen and Russia.
Speaking at a dialogue session organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, al-Alimi highlighted the deep-rooted and ancient ties between the two nations.
He traced the history of relations between Yemen and Russia back to the 1920s, when the first Soviet ship arrived in Hodeidah, marking the beginning of a partnership that extended beyond trade to include scientific and cultural cooperation.
Al-Alimi noted that Russia was among the first to recognize the Yemen Arab Republic after the September 26 Revolution and supported the establishment of the state in South Yemen after its independence.
The President criticized the lack of understanding about the situation in Yemen and the prevalence of misleading narratives in some international circles.
He emphasized that the Houthi group is not a victimized group that can be appeased through political settlements but rather a militant ideological organization that rejects the concept of a civil state and equal citizenship.
Al-Alimi warned that the Houthi militia's actions, including ship hijacking, mine planting, and piracy in the Red Sea, are not new but a long-standing pattern of behavior.
The President reiterated Yemen's stance in support of the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent state and called for a halt to Israeli aggression.
