Japanese government announced today, Tuesday, a support package worth $15.5 billion to help small and medium-sized Japanese companies cope with the impact of the hefty tariffs imposed by the United States.
Japanese government spokesperson Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a press conference: "The plan, valued at 2.2 trillion yen, will include financial assistance for companies and easing of lending conditions with a state-backed credit institution."
Tokyo, a close ally of Washington and the main source of foreign investment in the United States, has become a target for additional 25% U.S. tariffs on cars and steel since the beginning of April last year. However, cars represent nearly 30% of Japanese exports to the United States.
