BERLIN-SABA
Germany and Canada renewed today, Tuesday, their opposition to the tariffs that the new US administration began imposing on imports from abroad.
Germany's Federal Economy Ministry said in a statement that "German Economy Minister Robert Habke and his Canadian counterpart Mary Ng discussed the U.S. tariffs and agreed to oppose them."
She added that the two ministers discussed the "risks" that would result from the imposition of these tariffs, as well as the file for Canada to assume the presidency of the Group of Seven industrialized countries (G7).
They affirmed their governments' commitment to common denominators on world trade and their position that industrialized countries entering the cycle of tariffs and counter-tariffs "would cause all parties to lose", she said.
For his part, the statement quoted the German minister as warning against imposing tariffs on goods exported from the European Union to the United States, stressing his country's readiness to "impose counter-tariffs."
