The Canadian government recorded a federal budget deficit of $61.9 billion during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.
According to Radio Canada International, Justin Trudeau's government did not hit the $40.1 billion ceiling for the federal budget deficit for the fiscal year (2023-2024), surpassing it by about $22 billion, to $61.9 billion.
The Canadian government attributed the spike in the deficit to $5.5 billion lower government revenue than expected when the budget was submitted, as well as additional $16.4 billion in expenditures pledged by the government in specific commitments.
The budget deficit for the current fiscal year (2024-2025) is expected to decrease to $48.3
