Beijing strongly opposes Canada's planned extra taxes on Chinese products
[12/09/2024 12:19]
BEIJING-SABA
China voiced strong opposition after Canada had launched a consultation process on possible additional taxes on more Chinese products.

Spokesman for China's Ministry of Commerce said "China has learned about Canada's recent announcement to start a 30-day consultation on possible additional taxes on Chinese batteries and their parts, semiconductors, solar products and important metals".

In a statement carried by the Chinese news agency (Xinhua), he described Canada's move as perilous "Canada's move, which came just half a month after it had imposed restrictions on Chinese electric vehicles and other products, is dangerous and irresponsible".

Canada announced in late August that it would introduce a 100 per cent extra tax on all electric vehicles manufactured in China from Oct. 1, 2024 and it would impose further 25 per cent tax on imports of steel and aluminum products from China from Oct. 15, 2024.
