Australia has signed a four-year, A$2.2 billion ($1.4 billion) contract with submarine manufacturer ASC to upgrade the navy's Collins class submarines.
Australian Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy said in a statement that the support contract is part of a government pledge to keep the diesel-electric Collins fleet as "a potent strike and deterrence capability."
