Global airlines raised today, Monday, their 2024 profit forecasts, expecting sector-wide revenues of just under a trillion dollars, as the number of passengers rose to a record high.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has predicted that the global sector is set to produce profits of $30.5 billion this year, up from the upwardly adjusted $27.4 billion in 2023.

These forecasts come just 4 years after the sector collapsed, incurring losses of $140 billion in 2020 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, higher than the forecast of $25.7 billion for 2024 issued in December.
