President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi told Antonia Calvo-Puerta the EU Head of Delegation to Yemen that "we had included the Houthis as a stakeholder in the National Dialogue Conference (2013-2014) but they wanted to be just militias and tools in Iran's hands to kill and displace people and destroy the country."

In a meeting with Calvo-Puerta in Riyadh on Monday, Hadi said given the militia's abandoning of the historical talks and resort to force to rule the roost, "there is no choice for the Yemeni people, but to defeat the forces of darkness for the win of the new federal Yemen."

Hadi told her: "We are at crossroads; either to achieve victory for the legitimacy and the new federal Yemen or stay hostages to the forces of darkness represented by the Iran-affiliated militia, (the latter of which) Yemenis will absolutely not accept."

Hadi noted the EU's interest in the violations that the radical militia commits against the unarmed civilians including women and children including Sana'a.

Calvo-Puerta affirmed the EU's commitment to Yemen's peace, security and stability.

The talks also addressed the economic and other forms of suffering of the population living in the Houthi-held areas.
