Member of the Presidential Leadership Council, the Governor of Hadhramaut, Salem al-Khanbashi met Wednesday with a delegation from the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen.
During the meeting, which included the Head of Strategic Communication and Media at the UN Envoy’s Office, Azminee Bala, Political Affairs Officer Tamana Obeid and Inclusivity Policy Officer Ethar Shibani, and was attended by the Deputy Governor of Hadhramaut for Valley and Desert District Affairs, Jamaan Barba’a, al-Khanbashi listened to a presentation on the office’s current efforts in the governorate aimed at understanding local community issues and the situation on the ground.
The Presidential Leadership Council member addressed the events witnessed by the governorate during the recent period, including the looting of military, security and civilian property, as well as the measures taken to address these issues and strengthen security and stability.
He also reviewed the challenges facing the governorate led by the deterioration of basic services, especially electricity. He praised the continuous support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Hadhramaut in the developmental, service, and military sectors.
Al-Khanbashi reaffirmed the Presidential Leadership Council’s commitment to a just and comprehensive peace approach in accordance with national, regional, and international references, considering it the best option for ending the crisis and achieving security, stability, and development.
In a related context, PLC member Salem al-Khanbashi also discussed today with the UNDP representative in Hadhramaut, Engineer Abdullah bin Makhashen, the progress of development projects being implemented in the governorate and future intervention plans.
The meeting reviewed the key projects implemented by the program in several vital sectors and the positive impact they have had in improving essential facilities, supporting livelihoods, and enhancing capacities, in addition to discussing the challenges facing the implementation of some projects and ways to overcome them.
Al-Khanbashi emphasized the importance of partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and its role in supporting the efforts of the local authority to achieve sustainable development.
He stressed the need to align upcoming projects with the governorate’s priorities and needs, especially in the fields of infrastructure, capacity building, and supporting social and economic stability.
