ADEN – SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, has issued a directive to shut down all unofficial prisons and detention centers in liberated governorates and to immediately release individuals held outside the legal framework.
The directive, part of a broader effort to restore state authority and uphold human rights, instructs security and military agencies—working in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and Ministry of Justice—to identify and document all illegal detention facilities in Aden, Lahj, and Al-Dhalea.
Authorities have been ordered to urgently develop a plan to close these facilities, ensuring that any detainees are either transferred to official, legally supervised detention centers or released if no formal charges are proven against them.
