The Parliament held a consultative meeting on Thursday headed by the Speaker of the Parliament Sheikh Sultan sl-Barakani, to discuss a number of national, political, economic, social and security issues.
The meeting reviewed the current situation of the Parliament and the challenges and obstacles that prevent it from convening and performing its constitutional and legislative duties, in light of the delicate stage that the country is going through.
The Speaker of the Parliament reviewed the magnitude of the challenges facing the national arena in various general situations, the difficult reality they have created that has affected the lives and daily livelihoods of citizens and efforts made by the Presidency of the Parliament throughout the past period to convene its meetings, overcome the obstacles preventing it from convening and reassure all parties.
In their discussions, Council members stressed holding the concerned authorities responsible for the tragic conditions experienced by citizens.
The confirmed that restoring the effectiveness of state institutions and unifying decisions can only be achieved by all state institutions fulfilling their constitutional and legal duties.
The meeting also discussed constitutional, legal, financial and administrative violations during the past period and the manifestations of corruption witnessed by some state institutions in the absence of a system of oversight and accountability.
It stressed that these violations represent a flagrant violation of the Constitution and the law, direct harm to public interests, plunder of resources, and disruption of development and services, and in this context, members of the House of Representatives expressed their deep concern about the continuing manifestations of abuse of power and their adoption of irresponsible methods in managing public affairs, which deepens the state of chaos and weakens citizens' confidence in the state and its legitimacy.
The meeting stressed that the convening of the council and the resumption of its legislative and oversight duties represents an urgent national necessity that cannot be postponed, and that the completion of state institutions at home.
The members of the Council also discussed the importance of holding consultative meetings through currently available means (video communication) for issues of urgent necessity and a committee was formed to prepare verses related to what is consistent with the spirit of the internal regulations of the parliament and what necessity requires.
