Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Discusses Child Protection Efforts with Swiss Ambassador and UNICEF Team
[30/08/2025 02:39]
ADEN – SABA
Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Dr. Mohammed al-Zaouri, met with the Swiss Ambassador to Yemen, Thomas Ortel, and a UNICEF team led by the Deputy Representative for UNICEF Yemen Country Office, Mioh Nemoto.

The meeting focused on enhancing joint efforts to protect children in Yemen.

Dr. al-Zaouri highlighted the government's significant efforts to address the challenges faced by children in Yemen, despite the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict. He noted that the war has resulted in severe psychological trauma and humanitarian suffering for children, with approximately 400,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition and over three million children deprived of their right to education.

The Minister also referred to the exploitation of children by the Houthi militia in logistical activities related to combat fronts and the displacement of over 4.5 million citizens, mostly children, to liberated areas.

Dr. al-Zaouri praised the support of UNICEF in developing the National Child Protection Plan for 2025-2026, which was informed by field visits to liberated provinces.

The Swiss Ambassador commended the efforts of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and highlighted the Swiss government's support through UNICEF in developing the national plan and enhancing the capacities of social service workers.
