President al-Alimi: Dismantling the racist and military structure of Houthi militias very necessary to make sustainable peace
[20/08/2025 02:18]

RIYADH - SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) received today, Wednesday, along with the Council Member Sultan al-Arada the UN's Special Envoy Hans Grundberg.

The President welcomed the UN envoy, highly appreciating his recent briefing to the Security Council, which included attitudes about the requirements for halting escalation, improving the economy and releasing the UN's employees and international organization staff detained by the Houthi terrorist militias.

Mr. Grundberg briefed al-Alimi and al-Arada on the outcomes of his recent communications and coordinated efforts with the international community for reviving the peace process in accordance with the peace references that have been rejected by the Iranian regime backed terrorist Houthi militias.

The Chairman of the PLC reiterated the Council's and the government's support for the UN-led efforts to achieve just and comprehensive peace in accordance with the three references which are agreed-upon nationally, regionally and internationally, especially Security Council Resolution 2216.

President al-Alimi recalled on the occasion of the four-year anniversary of the appointment of Mr. Grundberg as the UN envoy to Yemen, the cooperation of the PLC and the government with all international and regional initiatives to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people, despite the continued intransigence and arrogance of the Houthi militias over the past years.

The Chairman of the PLC stressed that after all these years of war and international mediation, the fundamental truth is becoming clearer: true peace begins with addressing the grass-root of the problem, pushing militias to abandon their ancestral ideas and dismantling their racist and military structures.

He made it crystal clear that the dilemma is not in the details of the technical arrangements, but in the essence of the problem embodied by a group that sees itself above others and treats peace as a means of manipulation, rather than a strategic choice in the interest of the Yemeni people.

His Excellency confirmed that the responsibility of the UN and the international community should not be limited to managing the crisis, but rather to provide the objective conditions for achieving sustainable peace, preventing the recurrence of wars, and not allowing the militias to reinstall their tyranny under any guise.

The President praised the continued unity of the international community regarding the Yemeni file, and the alignment of the positions of the major powers in the Security Council with the Yemeni stance on many key issues, foremost of which are supporting the UN inspection mechanism and adding a military expert to the international sanctions committee.

The Chairman of the PLC referred to the violations by the Houthi militias and their backers of the arms embargo, and their persisting efforts to fabricate pretexts to delay peace, prolonging conflict and humanitarian suffering.

He emphasized the importance of the role of the UN and its Special Envoy in warning against the dangers of violating the arms embargo and identifying the party obstructing its peaceful efforts as well as the necessity of mobilizing funding to enhance the improvement of the national currency and achieve the desired economic recovery on all levels.
