President al-Alimi praises S. Korea's supportive stance in support of Yemen in UN Security Council

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) received today, Sunday, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Yemen Do Bong-Kae.

They discussed Yemeni- Korean bilateral relations and cooperation and the latest developments in the Yemen national arena.

President al-Alimi celebrated the robust Yemeni-Korean relations on their 40th anniversary, deeply appreciating Korea's supportive stance in support of the Yemeni government and people, praising its active role as a temporary member of the Security Council, as well as its presidency of the sanctions committee related to Yemen, emphasizing the importance of adding a military expert to the composition of this committee.

The President updated the Korean Ambassador on the developments in the Yemeni national arena and the government's efforts to alleviate the humanitarian suffering that has been further worsen by the attacks of the Terrorist Houthi militias on the oil facilities and the marine shipping lanes.

Al-Alimi underlined the needed international support to help the government' efforts aiming to manage the economic challenges and to achieve the economic recovery.

His Excellency expressed his desire for a greater partnership with the Republic of Korea, especially in the areas of reconstruction, reconstruction, renewable energy electricity generation, water, port rehabilitation, sewage networks, public works and other vital sectors.

The Chairman of the PLC highlighted the importance of Korea's role as an economic power reliant on international trade, in supporting the Yemeni government's capabilities to deter any threats to shared interests, considering that the security of the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb is not solely Yemen's responsibility, but the responsibility of all countries benefiting from commercial services through this vital corridor.

President al-Alimi praised the unity of the international community about the Yemeni file, calling for more pressure on the Houthi militias and their supporters, namely joining the decision to designate them as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and supporting the United Nations inspection mechanism for applying the arms embargo.

The Korean Ambassador affirmed his country's support for the PLC, the government, and the Yemeni people and their aspirations for security, stability and peace, in accordance with the references for a comprehensive solution in the country, especially Resolution 2216.

Mr. Bong-Kae cited the areas of cooperation between the two friendly countries since the start of the diplomatic relations in August 1985 and Korea's engagement in the international humanitarian actions to meet the needs of the Yemeni people within the humanitarian response plans and alleviating water crises in several Yemeni governorates.
