Leadership Council Chairman Calls for National Unity and Reform on 35th Anniversary of Republic
[21/05/2025 06:12]

ADEN - SABA
Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Rashad al-Alimi delivered a speech to the nation this evening on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Yemen's National Day, May 22.

"We have embarked on correcting the path, starting with strengthening the independence of authorities, activating law enforcement agencies, and addressing some of the effects of the summer 1994 war," al-Alimi said.

The President emphasized the importance of national unity and the need for collective action to overcome current challenges and complete the battle against the Houthi coup.

"The national unity we seek is not just a slogan, but a practical reality that is reflected in just institutions, independent authorities, and a civil state that is managed by good governance and equal opportunities," al-Alimi stated.

"We reaffirm that the Southern issue represents the core of any just political settlement, and its solution cannot be achieved through superficial settlements, but rather through full justice and adequate guarantees that enable the sons of the South to shape their future and determine their political, economic, and cultural status," he added.

Al-Alimi condemned the Iran-backed Houthi militia's actions, emphasizing that they pose an existential threat to the republican system, national security, and social fabric.

"This terrorist group, which is increasing its actions in the name of unity and sovereignty, is the one that is closing roads, besieging cities, draining the national currency, and reproducing discrimination and differences between classes," al-Alimi warned.

The President called for unity and collective action to confront the challenges facing Yemen.

"Let us make this anniversary a turning point for creative initiatives, renewal of commitment, and unification of the media discourse of all stakeholders in power, and rising to the level of the threat that surrounds everyone without exception," he urged.
