President al-Alimi receives report on applying presidential directives to release prisoners, succor insolvents

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) received today, Monday, a report about the execution of the presidential directives to release prisoners who have served three quarters or a half of their sentences, as well as insolvents detainees who were imprisoned on charges of due debts after paying their debts, on the occasion of the blessed month of Ramadan.

The Attorney General Judge Qaher Mostafa submitted the report in the presence of the Minister of Justice Judge Badr al-Aridha.

The total number of the released prisoners is 482, including 152 prisoners who served three quarters of the term, 137 prisoners completed their sentence and 23 prisoners released after paying their due debts.

160 prisoners were released on bail and 10 prisoners were released due to the lack of any reason to file a lawsuit against
The Attorney General noted that there are still 324 prisoners imprisoned on charges of due debts they are unable to pay because of their insolvency.

He pointed out that contacts are continuing with the concerned authorities, businessmen, philanthropists and chambers of commerce in order to help insolvent prisoners.

The Minister of Justice and the Attorney General reported in details about the progress of work in the courts, judicial bodies, the Public Prosecution and their auxiliary agencies during the previous period.

They also highlighted the ongoing reforms and modernization of the judicial bodies and the restoration of infrastructure, citing the needed support to further improve their performance and effective presence in various governorates.

The President reiterated the commitment of the PLC and the government to support the judiciary, facilitate its great tasks, and respect its independence in exercising its constitutional and legal powers to deliver justice and protect the public funds.
