[15/02/2025 02:39]

MUNICH - SABA
Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi received Saturday here Timothy Lenderking, the Acting U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, which kicked off its activities on Friday.

The meeting addressed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, the latest developments in Yemen and the complicated challenges facing the government, primarily the economic, service, and humanitarian crises exacerbated by the attacks of the Houthi terrorist militias on oil facilities and maritime shipping.

The discussion also highlighted the risks posed by the continued threats from the Iranian-backed Houthi militias to regional and international security, as well as their severe violations of human rights.

The meeting emphasized the need for pressure to secure the release of United Nations personnel and members of the humanitarian and civil society without conditions, and to engage seriously with comprehensive peace efforts in accordance with agreed-upon references, particularly Resolution 2216.
President al-Alimi praised the American official's efforts during his tenure as Envoy to Yemen, wishing him success in his new position and expressing a desire to work closely with him to enhance bilateral relations at various levels.
The President also highlighted the U.S. administration's decision to reclassify the Houthi militias as a foreign terrorist organization, emphasizing the importance of the international community joining such punitive measures as a peaceful option to dry up the financing and arming sources of the militias and to implement relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
