President al-Alimi confers with British Ambassador over bilateral relations

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) received today, Thursday, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom (UK) to the Republic of Yemen Abda Sharif.

The British Ambassador briefed the President on the UK-led efforts and arrangements to hold meeting in New York, scheduled for the 20th of this month, aiming to mobilize the political and economic support for the Yemeni government and to boost its capacities to contribute to protect the regional peace and security.

The conversations touched on the Yemeni-British bilateral relations, the developments on the Yemeni and regional arenas and ways to coordinate between the two countries about issues of common interests.

The discussions also covered the course of the political, economic and structural reforms and the pressing priorities of the transitional phase as well as the required international support to improve the humanitarian and living conditions which have been worsen by the terrorist attacks of the Houthi militias on the oil exports facilities and marine shipping lanes.

President al-Alimi praised the robust Yemeni-British bilateral relations, highly appreciating the UK's significant contribution to the humanitarian and development actions in different fields.

He also greatly valued the British initiative to organize an international gathering about Yemen.

He said " We're looking forward to substantial support for the government's efforts to enable it to control over all Yemeni territories".

The Chairman of the PLC reiterated the commitment of the Council and the government to an inclusive and fair peace approach that is based on the nationally, regionally and internationally agreed on references for peace, specifically the UNSCR 2216.

The President also reaffirmed Yemen's position iron-clad support for the Palestinian people's right to establish its own independent state.

In this context, His Excellency welcomed the announcement about the cease-fire agreement in Gaza Strip in the hope that it will lead to an end of all grass-roots of tension and destabilization of the region security.
