President al-Alimi meets with UN Under-Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) met today, Monday, with the Under-Secretary for the UN General Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs and Acting Emergency Relief Coordinator Joyce Msweya, on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly.

They discussed the humanitarian interventions and emergency relief actions carried out by the UN's agencies in Yemen, the coordinated efforts with the international community to mobilize the necessary finances for the UN Response Plan 2024 in Yemen which has not yet received but 28 percent from the required resources.

The conversations also touched upon the grave violations of human rights by the terrorist Houthis militias, including the recent wide-scale arrest campaign against dozens of the activists and the staff of the international organizations operate in Yemen.

President al-Alimi restated that the PLC and the government are very keen to offer every necessary support to facilitate the actions of the humanitarian organizations and help them to mitigate the humanitarian suffering that further worsen by the terrorist attacks of the Houthi militias on the oil facilities and maritime shipping lanes.

The Chairman of the PLC urged the UN's agencies to relocate their headquarters in the temporary capital Aden to ensure the safety of their staff. He also urged transferring the their funds through the Central Bank of Yemen to contribute toward improving the value of the Yemeni national currency and to drain the sources of the war economy run by the Houthi militias and the terrorist organizations that collaborate with the militias.
