President al-Alimi meets with UNDP Administrator in New York

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) along with the PLC's members Aidarous al-Zubaid and Othman Mujalli met today, Monday, in New York, with the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Achim Steiner, on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, whose discussions are starting tomorrow, Tuesday.

The meeting aimed to discuss the UNDP's interventions in different domains, coordinated efforts with the international community to mobilize further resources to finance the more sustainable and effective programs that can allay the Yemeni people's suffering created by the Iranian-regime allied terrorist Houthi militias.

The UN official briefed the President and the PLC's members on the UNDP's interventions, mainly in the areas of agriculture and fishery.

Steiner cited the UNDP's interventions and programs in the sectors of water, electricity and clean energy, education, roads, health services and support for livelihoods, response to food security challenges, handling climate changes' effects and improve the efficiency of the Yemeni seaports.

The discussions also touched upon the UNDP's Plan for Economic Recovery in Yemen, revive production chains of the two crops of coffee and honey as well as the infrastructure projects funded by the GCC member states.

The Chairman of the PLC and its two members praised the UNDP's significant role over the previous decades in Yemen, deeply appreciating its contribution to the humanitarian actions in Yemen that have proved very helpful to the Yemeni people during the war-times triggered by the Iranian regime-allied terrorist Houthi militias.

President al-Alimi also praised the UN's plans to move from relief phase to the sustainable development stage, applauding the UNDP's move to establish its Office in the temporary capital Aden.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shaya al-Zindani, Yemen's Permanent Representative to the UN Abdullah al-Sa'di and UNDP Regional Director in the Arab States Abdullah al-Dardar were in attendance.
