President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, met today, Wednesday, with the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Ms Audrey Azoulay, in conjunction with his participation in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, which began yesterday, Tuesday.
In the meeting, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the role of UNESCO in supporting and preserving Yemeni cultural and natural heritage, and protecting it in light of the war and the current funding crisis, which was exacerbated by the war of the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council also praised the coordinated efforts of the United Nations with the relevant governmental and diplomatic authorities, which efforts led to the classification of the landmarks of the Kingdom of Sheba in Marib Governorate as World Heritage, as the fifth Yemeni site to be put on the international list.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council presented the UN official with the needs and programs required in the field of UNESCO’s interventions and competencies at various levels.
