[05/09/2023 04:11]

ADEN - SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Tuesday, in Aden the UN Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen David Gressly.

Mr. Gressly detailed President al-Alimi about the UN's response to the increasingly growing humanitarian needs in our country and the UN's plans to increase its actions in the government-held governorates.

The President praised the humanitarian interventions of the UN, mainly the emergency aids of food and health which have been very helpful and proved live-saving for millions, moreover the UN's successful efforts to handle Safer Tanker that helped to avert an unbearable environmental disaster.

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council voiced his concerns about reducing the relief aids as that will further exacerbate the already dire humanitarian crisis which created by Iran-backed militias' coup.

His Excellency has confirmed the keenness of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to support the UN's efforts and ease its staff movement and easily access to the people in need all over Yemen s to alleviate the humanitarian suffering.

The President stressed that it is very necessary to revise some of the UN's programs in the Houthi militias-controlled regions in order to ensure the delivery of the humanitarian aids to the people in need.

He also noted that it is very important for the UN to reconsider the allocated support for the militias in the field of removing the landmines. He suggested that it will be much better to get the militias to stop planting more landmines and marine mines which both are internationally prohibited.
