Dep. Planning Minister, organizations discuss implementing development, service & humanitarian projects

Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Nizar Basuhaib, discussed in the interim capital, Aden, with Shawqi Abbas, the new country director of the Search for Common Ground organization, the implementation of a number of different projects and programs, and strengthening aspects of coordination and partnership between the two sides.

The meeting dealt with the organization’s projects implemented in the governorates of Aden, Lahj, and Abyan, and its interventions in the fields of roads, water, health, education, promoting peace for women, and resolving community conflicts.

Dr. Basuhaib explained that the ministry's directions and priorities for the current year include moving from emergency interventions to sustainable development projects that meet the citizen's needs according to priorities, noting the importance of implementing service and development projects commensurate with the needs of the local community in the targeted districts.

The Deputy Minister also discussed with the country director of the Norwegian Aid Organization, Fayez Baktin, the organization's project plan in the field of landmine risk education in the governorates of Marib, Al-Dhalea, Al-Hudaydah and Taiz.

In another context, Dr. Basuhaib, during his meeting today in Aden, with the Director of the Handicap Organization in Aden and Lahj (concerned with prosthetic limbs) Kamran Shah, reviewed the total needs for physiotherapy services and the installation of prostheses.

Basuhaib affirmed the ministry's keenness and focus on benefiting from the funds granted in more effective projects that serve groups with disabilities through the establishment of centers for prosthetics and the provision of devices and equipment for physiotherapy to alleviate their suffering and integrate them into society.

On a separate level, the Deputy Minister discussed also today with the Director of Chemonics International for Development and Peacebuilding Services the organization's projects in the fields of early warning of famine and peacebuilding, and aspects of cooperation between the two sides in its fields of work and humanitarian activities.
