[29/04/2023 06:30]
WASHINGTON-SABA
The embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Washington received today, Saturday, three Yemeni artifacts the American security authorities managed to spot and seize during the time of January and February 2023.

The retrieved antiquities include a statue of a Yemeni ibex dated back to the fifth century BC, a statue of a woman made of alabaster dated back to the second century BC and an antique silver plate dated back to the third century AD.

At a reception held today at the headquarters of the American Attorney General in New York the Yemeni Ambassador Mohammed al-Hadrami highly praised the efforts of the American authorities to seize the looted artifacts and bring them to the Yemeni government.

He stated the Yemeni government decided to add these artifacts to the Yemeni antiquities which were deposited earlier in the famous Smithsonian Museum in Washington in order to promote the Yemeni heritage in the United States.

The Deputy Attorney General in New York confirmed that the American security and judicial services will continue to track and seize all looted Yemeni artifacts and bring them to the Yemeni government.

The Yemeni government is presently seeking to sign a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. government about imposing import restrictions on stolen Yemeni artifacts for a period of five years under the UNESCO Convention of 1970 regarding the measures to be taken to ban the import, export and transfer of ownership of cultural property
Al-Hadrami honored four American officers and officials on behalf of the Yemeni government in recognition of their tireless efforts to seize and bring the artifacts to the Yemeni government.
