The Arab Republic of Egypt welcomed the start of the process of exchanging detainees between the government and the Houthi group, under the auspices of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

In a statement published by the Middle East News Agency (MENA), the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the exchange of detainees represents a positive and important step, which Egypt looks forward to building on to renew the truce in Yemen, and advance the ongoing efforts to reach a political settlement that leads to a comprehensive peace.

The statement affirmed Egypt's full support for any efforts that would restore security and stability in Yemen, preserve its unity and territorial integrity, and alleviate the humanitarian crises suffered by the brotherly Yemeni people.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan also welcomed the start of the process of exchanging detainees between the government of the Republic of Yemen and the Houthis, which was announced yesterday, Friday.
