Yemen's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, discussed today, in New York City, with the UN's Resident Coordinator David Gressly a number of issues related to the general and humanitarian situation in Yemen, foremost of which is the progress made in the safe salvage of the dangeroulsy decaying oil tanker stranded off Yemen's Hodeidah shores.
Ambassador Al-Saadi affirmed the commitment of the Yemeni government to support all efforts and provide all necessary facilities to avoid the imminent and potential catastrophe resulting from the oil spill from the tanker. He indicated that any progress in this matter would not be guaranteed unless by implementing actual results on the ground.. expressing the government's concerns about the delay in the implementation of the United Nations plan, calling on the United Nations to expedite the implementation of the first rescue phase of the plan without any delay.
For his part, the UN official pointed out that the pledges announced to start implementing the rescue plan were less than the existing need of about 32 million dollars, and that his visit to New York comes within the framework of keenness to continue communication to mobilize support for the implementation of this plan.
