Minister of Water and Environment, Eng. Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, participated in the meeting organized by the Arab League at the United Nations building on the sidelines of the United Nations Water Conference under the title "The joint commitment of the Arab region to accelerate the achievement of water security for sustainable development."

Minister Al-Sharjabi stressed that the Arab countries are located in one of the most water-scarce regions in the world, and this situation is exacerbated by frequent drought and low water consumption efficiency, in addition to issues related to shared water resources, which further complicates the situation due to the effects of current or expected climate changes in the future.

Minister Al-Sharjabi talked about a number of challenges and difficulties facing the Arab region in general and Yemen in particular, indicating that reports indicate that within two years from now, 14 Arab countries will witness a water shortage, and 10 countries will suffer from a severe water shortage.

He touched on a number of solutions and proposals to address these challenges and difficulties facing the Arab region in general, the most important of which are scientific research, work on establishing a local and country database, benefiting from modern technology and in line with the economic and social characteristics of the local population, working on the necessary institutional reforms, building capacities and reviewing policies.
