Deputy planning minister meets Japanese diplomat and WFP official

Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Nizar Basuhaib, discussed with the Acting Japanese Ambassador, Kazuhiro Higashi, in the temporary capital Aden today strengthening aspects of cooperation and joint coordination between the two friendly countries, and the possibility of increasing development support and implementing more projects in the fields of transport and fisheries.

Dr. Basuhaib praised the depth and strength of the bilateral relations between Yemen and Japan in various fields and sectors, and the Japanese efforts and roles in support of the development of Yemen, stressing the importance of continuing joint efforts and strengthening and expanding areas of bilateral cooperation to serve the interests of the two countries, expressing his thanks to the Japanese government for its continuous support to Yemen.

He reviewed developments in the general situation, especially the current economic situation in the country, and government efforts with the support of international partners and donor pledges to provide and provide basic services to citizens, achieve economic recovery and improvement, and alleviate human suffering due to the current difficult conditions.

The Deputy Minister of Planning called on the Japanese side to increase the scholarships allocated to Yemeni students, to provide the Yemeni side with sea ferries to transport citizens between the Yemeni islands, especially Socotra Island, and to pay attention to the rehabilitation and maintenance of Japanese projects suspended due to the war.

The Deputy Minister of Planning also held separate discussions today with the Director of the WFP's Aden office Mark Gordon, the level of the UN program's humanitarian interventions in the liberated governorates.

Dr. Basuhaib reiterated the ministry's keenness to provide all necessary facilities to overcome the difficulties facing the UN program and contribute to the success of its interventions.
