Transport Minister discusses with UN representative the technical issues of the national emergency plan

Minister of Transport, Dr. Abdulsalam Hameed, discussed today in the interim capital, Aden, with the United Nations Resident Representative for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen, David Gressly, the technical issues of the National Emergency Committee's plan to combat potential risks from the decaying Safer oil tanker.

At the meeting, the Minister of Transport reviewed what was included in the national emergency plan, including the establishment of two emergency centers, one of which is main based in the General Authority for Maritime Affairs, and another sub-station in an area close to Safer, in order to avoid and confront the possibility of any oil leakage during the transportation and unloading process..referring to the basic precautions of pollution control and other means required to implement the national emergency plan to deal with any oil leakage during the process of transferring oil from the old Safer tanker to the replacement oil tanker.

Minister Hamid stressed the necessity of dispatching specialized marine engineers from the General Authority for Maritime Affairs and the Safer Company to inspect the purchased ship to assess its technical condition, as well as granting the General Authority for Maritime Affairs in the interim capital, Aden, all the tasks and powers assigned to it, such as granting permits, certificates, and periodic inspection of the purchased ship and its crew, similar to the mechanism of its activity.
